Mawkyrwat; August 17, 2020: The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation LTD (NHIDCL), a wholly owned Corporation of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India, today started a training programme for Local Unemployed Youth/School dropouts (Std-10 Passed) for the state of Meghalaya at Nolikata Higher Secondary School, Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, wherein Kum. Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat who was the Chief Guest inaugurated the programme in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, General Manager, NHIDCL, Shillong and the Block Development Officer, Ranikor Block.
Speaking
on the occasion, Kum. Laloo said that this is the first “Employment Oriented
Training & Skill Development Programme” in the state conducted by the
National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation LTD (NHIDCL) with
the objective of training unemployed youth (standard 10th Passed) comprising of
both classroom lectures and practical training programme on basic construction
job roles like Mason, Carpenter, Plumber, Welder, Bar Bender, Electrician, General
works Supervisor, Surveyor, Storekeeper, Safety Inspector and other such jobs
unique to construction maintenance of National Highways. This programme will
equip the youth with required skills for employment in road construction
sector.
Following
an overwhelming response of applicants for training, this maiden training
programme is being conducted for a total of 30 trainees- all from present
project areas of NHIDCL, including 21 from South West Khasi Hills District and
9 from West Garo Hills District. Trainees have been selected by a Selection
Committee with focus on youth from project areas in this first phase. NHIDCL
has engaged Construction Industry Development Council (Niti Aayog), New Delhi
for subject training in the command areas of NHIDCL.
The programme was conducted after the approval from Political Department, Government of Meghalaya and with strict compliance to the health protocols issued by Health Department like testing, social distancing, wearing of mask, sanitizing and others. All trainers and trainees coming to the District have been tested and completed quarantine.
