SRCW offers help to vulnerable women and children who suffered during COVID-19

 Mawkyrwat; September 08, 2020: The office of the Mission Director, State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW), Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya do hereby informed that in view of the prevailing Covid-19 Pandemic, women and children may be going through difficulties and are more vulnerable to become victims to various evils such as domestic violence ,spousal violence, physical abuse, sexual harassment at home or at workplace or in the fields etc. Therefore, the government is committed to ensure the protection of the women under the Domestic Violence Act, 2005; Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006;  Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013 etc. and if a woman is faced with any of the above mentioned untoward situations or if anyone knows any woman to be in any such situation, they can and should call on Women Helpline Tollfree Number 181 to report such cases, so that the necessary steps can be taken to ensure their safety, security and well-being.

Children too may find themselves helpless in situations such as caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and may be forced into child labor, physical abuse, sexual harassment, drug abuse and other such evils. Such cases must be immediately reported by calling the Childline Helpline Tollfree Number 1098.

Inform the Rapid Response Team of the District if there is any abnormal mortality of pigs

Mawkyrwat; September 08, 2020: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat issued this order that in view of confirmed cases of occurance of African Swine Fever (AFS) in some district and some cases of pig death reported in Umpung Village and Mawthong Village as per report received from the Addl. Deputy Commissioner, i/c Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, Ranikor and District AH & Vety Officer, Mawkyrwat.

As a preventive measures to control the spread of African Swine Fever (AFS) disease o the district if detected, Kum. Isawanda Laloo, IAS, District Magistrate, South West Khasi Hills District, under section 144 Cr.P.C instruct that lal private pgi farms and pg farms shall take adequate measures for strict hygiene and bio-security measures as per following protocols issued by the Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya, AH & Veterinary Department that no transportation of pigs from and into the district, no improper disposal of death pigs, no inter-state and inter district movements of pigs. Pig farm owners shall maintain hygiene and bio-secure condition at all times and restricts the entry of personnel into farm premises. Pig owners should take preventive measures to prevent transmission of diseases from wild boar, scavenging and stray pigs. Movements of pig handlers from one pig shed to other pig shed is prohibited. Feeding of swill (kitchen and restaurant wastes) in infected zones should be stopped by the pig farm owners. Waste from slaughter houses and pork stalls has to be disposed of properly after following all standards protocols including disinfection and burial in disease free zones.

If there is any sing of abnormal mortality of pigs, the Rapid Response Teams of South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat may be contacted. In view of the urgency of the matter the order is passed ex-parte with immediate effect until further orders.

Inauguration of ‘Temporary Farmers’ Market’ at Mawkyrwat

 Mawkyrwat; September 07, 2020: To curb the spread of Covid-19 by way of social distancing and adhering to protocols issued by the Government Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA Mawkyrwat Constituency, today inaugurated the ‘Temporary Farmers' Market’ at Balang Presbyterian Ground near Mawkyrwat Community Hall during the programme organised by Temporary Farmers' Market Committee in the presence of Miss Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, Shri. Carnes Sohshang, MDC, Mawkyrwat Constituency, Government officials of different departments, village leaders and shopkeepers.

        Speaking on the Inaugural function Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh said that the vision to reduce congestion at Mawkyrwat Market, to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by way of social distancing, to provide an opportunity for farmers to sell their products, to help hawkers and street vendors run their business, to promote cleanliness in the market and to encourage business spirit in the District the ‘Temporary Farmers’ Market’ was conceptualized and started. He expressed his gratitude to Mawkyrwat Town Dorbar, Seng samla Shnong Mawkyrwat who will run the market, Presbyterian Church Makyrwat for giving the ground to be used as temporary market, Church of God Mawkyrwat for giving the ground for Parking  and all government officers for their cooperation to uplift the district.  He lauded the people and said that if there are any signs of development in the District it is because of the collective efforts and cooperation of the people. He further said that the temporary market is one way of fighting against Covid-19 and added that “to fight against Covid-19 one should take a firm decision not to be affected by the virus and not to spread the virus to others by following all the protocols issued by the government”. On behalf of the District he expressed his gratitude to Miss Isawanda Laloo, IAS for her selfless services, creative ideas, and for uplifting the district to present status. He requested her to continue her services to the district in whatever way possible saying ‘please leave the district only physically but let your heart and services remain in our district’. He concluded whishing her well with her new assignment as the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, Shillong.

            Miss Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat said that the inauguration of the ‘Temporary Farmers’ Market’ is an important milestone and a golden opportunity for farmers to market their produce. She expressed her gratitude to the MLA, MDC, village leaders, youth groups and convergence government department for their contribution towards making the farmers’ dream a reality. She added that the market will reduce congestion of the main Mawkyrwat market, will improve cleanliness and it will also be a model farmers’ market not just in the district but in the State as well. She further said that ‘Market is the backbone for socio-economic wellbeing of people’ and that the Temporary Farmers’ Market should be a democratic market where farmers and shopkeepers will be able to bring different types of goods and sell them there. She also thanked the people of South West Khasi Hills District and said that she gained more experiences in administration, she loved the scenic beauty of the place and felt so comfortable to work with the people of the district. She added that she is only a moderator but all the achievement in the district is because of the collective efforst of officials and people. She urged the people to give the same collaboration to her successor Smti. Caramai Kharkongor, MCS, for bringing development and prosperity to the district.

            The inaugural function was chaired by Shri. Ferdinand Banteilang  Basan, MCS, BDO Mawkyrwat C&RD Block cum Chairman Farmers' Market, where Rockfeller Lyngkhoi, Myntri Mawkyrwat delivered a speech on behalf of the village and Shri. Dawningstar Marwein, General Secretary Seng Samla, Mawkyrwat, gave the Introductory Speech.

                It is to be noted that after the Inaugural function the Mawkyrwat Town Dorbar through the leadership of Seng Samla Shnong Markyrwat bid Farewell to Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District would be leaving the district and take over as the new Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, Shillong.

Mawkyrwat; September 05, 2020: Amidst the global pandemic the 58th Teacher’s Day Celebration at South West Khasi Hills District (SWKHD) organised by the office of the District School Education Officer (DSEO), SWKHD, Mawkyrwat was a meaningful and a memorable one wherein Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA, Mawkyrwat Constituency was the Chief Guest while Kum. Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat was the Guest of Honour in a programme held at Multipurpose Hall, DC Complex Mawkyrwat.

     Recognising the sacrificial efforts of teachers in educating children for a better society, the government gave State Award, 2020 to Shri. Basstanshon Sanglyne, BSc., B.Ed., M.A., Assitant Teacher, Maharam Govt. Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat. The South West Khasi Hills District Award, 2020 was given to Shri. Valentine Thyrniang, B.A., B.Ed., Assistant Teacher, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Rangblang at Secondary Level,  Smti. Plantinora Nongsiej, P.U (Arts), Assistant Teacher, Jakrem Presbyterian Higher Secondary School at Upper Primary Level and Shri. Justine Kharsyiemlieh, P.U, Head Teacher cum Secretary, Nongmyllam Govt. L.P School, Nongmyllam at Lower Primary Level. The best Scoutmaster of the District was awarded to Mr. Batkupar Khardewsaw, M.Sc. Lab Asstt. Cum Scout Master, Maharam Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Mawkyrwat while the best Guide Captain was awarded to Sr. Maria Cresencia Swer, M.A., B.Ed., Headmistress cum Group Leader of Scout & Guide, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Rangblang.

     Speaking as the Chief Guest Shri. Renikton congratulated the awardees for giving their best in imparting knowledge to students and lauded the DSEO for organising Teachers Day amidst the global pandemic to acknowledge the services rendered by teachers. He also thank Kum. Isawanda Laloo for her services to the District and said, ‘though you leave Mawkyrwat please continue to serve Mawkyrwat, leave Mawkyrwat physically but let your heart remain in our district”. He added that the government respect the profound contribution of teachers to society and added that we could never pay their selfless services. He expressed his gratitude to all teachers and said that prayed that they may continue to serve with good spirit. He urged teachers to adept with the current situation and updates themselves with the changing world so that they can impart novel ideas to children. Despite the infrastructural, network and other hardships that teachers encounter daily he noted that some teachers have find ways and means to guide their children through online classes, whatsup and other methods because they believed in the mantra of ‘something is better than nothing at all’. He informed the gathering that the government will permit opening of schools for higher classes while complying all protocols issued by the government. Therefore, he appealed teachers and communities to take responsibility in shaping and moulding the children. He urged teachers that they should live up to the expectation of society as formators and leaders and respect the aspiration, faith and trust of society so that society and children will continue to respect them.

        Speaking as the guest of Honour, Kum. Isawanda Laloo said that it was an honour to be part of the celebration and it gives us hope to have such programme to recognize the effort of teachers. She added due to Covid-19, this year has been a difficult year not only for government, economy, health sector, social life but also in education. She noted that online classes in the District are difficult to conduct because of the network issues. She acknowledged the services of teachers and said, “Teachers do not shy away with responsible allotted to them and they have played a key role in spreading awareness to people regarding Covid-19 and in fighting against it”. She added that Teachers are concerned about the welfare of students and performed their duty to the best of their abilities to form the young minds of our nation. She further said, “Teachers are dealing with living files” who will play vital role in society. Therefore, she urged them to take up their profession seriously and encouraged them to give equal importance on extra-curricular activities as well as the district have huge potential in sports. While congratulating the awardees she said that their long years of services are not in vain and today the government is recognising their efforts and dedicated services. 

        It is to be noted that the Teacher’s Day celebration in remembering the Birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of India was chaired by Shri. J. Thyrniang I/c DSEO, SWKHD, Mawkyrwat while the vote of thanks was delivered by Smti. Riba Marngar.
