Mawkyrwat; September 07, 2020: To curb the spread of Covid-19 by way of social distancing and adhering to protocols issued by the Government Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA Mawkyrwat Constituency, today inaugurated the ‘Temporary Farmers' Market’ at Balang Presbyterian Ground near Mawkyrwat Community Hall during the programme organised by Temporary Farmers' Market Committee in the presence of Miss Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, Shri. Carnes Sohshang, MDC, Mawkyrwat Constituency, Government officials of different departments, village leaders and shopkeepers.
Speaking
on the Inaugural function Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh said that the vision to reduce
congestion at Mawkyrwat Market, to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by way of
social distancing, to provide an opportunity for farmers to sell their
products, to help hawkers and street vendors run their business, to promote
cleanliness in the market and to encourage business spirit in the District the
‘Temporary Farmers’ Market’ was conceptualized and started. He expressed his
gratitude to Mawkyrwat Town Dorbar, Seng samla Shnong Mawkyrwat who will run
the market, Presbyterian Church Makyrwat for giving the ground to be used as
temporary market, Church of God Mawkyrwat for giving the ground for Parking and all government officers for their
cooperation to uplift the district. He
lauded the people and said that if there are any signs of development in the
District it is because of the collective efforts and cooperation of the people.
He further said that the temporary market is one way of fighting against
Covid-19 and added that “to fight against Covid-19 one should take a firm
decision not to be affected by the virus and not to spread the virus to others
by following all the protocols issued by the government”. On behalf of the
District he expressed his gratitude to Miss Isawanda Laloo, IAS for her
selfless services, creative ideas, and for uplifting the district to present
status. He requested her to continue her services to the district in whatever
way possible saying ‘please leave the district only physically but let your
heart and services remain in our district’. He concluded whishing her well with
her new assignment as the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District,
Shillong.
Miss
Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner South West Khasi Hills District,
Mawkyrwat said that the inauguration of the ‘Temporary Farmers’ Market’ is an
important milestone and a golden opportunity for farmers to market their
produce. She expressed her gratitude to the MLA, MDC, village leaders, youth
groups and convergence government department for their contribution towards
making the farmers’ dream a reality. She added that the market will reduce
congestion of the main Mawkyrwat market, will improve cleanliness and it will
also be a model farmers’ market not just in the district but in the State as
well. She further said that ‘Market is the backbone for socio-economic
wellbeing of people’ and that the Temporary Farmers’ Market should be a
democratic market where farmers and shopkeepers will be able to bring different
types of goods and sell them there. She also thanked the people of South West
Khasi Hills District and said that she gained more experiences in
administration, she loved the scenic beauty of the place and felt so
comfortable to work with the people of the district. She added that she is only
a moderator but all the achievement in the district is because of the
collective efforst of officials and people. She urged the people to give the
same collaboration to her successor Smti. Caramai Kharkongor, MCS, for bringing
development and prosperity to the district.
The
inaugural function was chaired by Shri. Ferdinand Banteilang Basan, MCS, BDO Mawkyrwat C&RD Block cum
Chairman Farmers' Market, where Rockfeller Lyngkhoi, Myntri Mawkyrwat delivered
a speech on behalf of the village and Shri. Dawningstar Marwein, General
Secretary Seng Samla, Mawkyrwat, gave the Introductory Speech.
It
is to be noted that after the Inaugural function the Mawkyrwat Town Dorbar
through the leadership of Seng Samla Shnong Markyrwat bid Farewell to Isawanda
Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District would be
leaving the district and take over as the new Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi
Hills District, Shillong.
