Mawkyrwat, September 23, 2021: The office of the District Sports Officer, Mawkyrwat in collaboration with the District Programme Officer, ICDS Cell, Nongstoin today organized YOGA sessions for working women and adolescent girls as part of the Rashtriya Poshan Maah Celebration held at Multi-Purpose Hall, DC Campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Smti. Kera Rajee, Yoga
Instructor from Luna Yoga Kera, Shillong said that Yoga is the relationship
build between the body, the mind and the breath. She added that Yoga is
creating space free from obstacles in our own body to live so that they can
feel comfortable and competently move their bodies through life. She shared
that she took Yoga because she was suffering from chronic disease and Yoga
healed her from her ailments. She taught the participant several steps that
include the 10 steps of surya namaskara, pranayama and others.
Smti. Heli Sahkhar, Child Development Project Officer,
Mawkyrwat explained about Poshan Maah saying that it is an overarching
government flagship programme to improve nutritional status of children up to 6
years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers to achieve
specific targets for reduction in low-birth-weight babies, stunting growth,
under nutrition and prevalence of anemia. While speaking about Yoga she said
that Yoga is one among the gamut activities during the POSHAN Maah to have a
holistic health of body, mind and soul. She added that Yoga is a natural
medicine that heal us from several diseases and give us numerous benefits like
lessened anxiety, better digestion, improved balance, relieved menstrual
discomfort, reduces headache and fatigue, helps asthma, relives symptoms of
menopause and helps in healthy child bearing. She also informed that
malnutrition is the cause of several sickness like wasting,
stunting, underweight, deficiencies in vitamins and minerals and anaemia.
