Public Consultation regarding development of road project from Mawngap to Ranikor

 Mawkyrwat; August 28, 2020: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District (SWKHD), Mawkyrwat in collaboration with the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India today organised a Public Consultation relating to Development of Road Project from Mawngap to Khatphra (Ranikor) held at Multipurpose Hall, DC Campus, Mawkyrwat in the august presence of Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA Mawkyrwat Constituency, Shri. Pius Marwein, MLA Ranikor Constituency, Kum. Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, SWKHD, Mawkyrwat, Shri. H.S. Diengdoh, MCS, I/c Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, EE PWD (Rds) of Mawkyrwat and Ranikor, other government officials, Syiem and village leaders.

NHIDCL has assigned Global Infra Solutions in JV with Dhruv Consultancy Services Limited and Association with Infycons Creative Software Pvt. Ltd to do the survey and preparation of DPR. The consultant of Global Infra Solutions presented the Detailed Project Report for Mawngap (on old NH 44E) – Mawphlang – Laitmusiang – Mawkyrwat – Rangthong – Nongnah – Dirang – Khadphra (Ranikor) road covering 96 Km stretch (original stretch is 98.291 Km). The speed limit of the road will be 60Km/h, total transit time will be 90-120 minutes and the carriageway width will vary from 3 to 7m throughout the stretch. The terrain is hill, the road will have to pass through some agricultural land, builtup area, barren land, dense vegetation/forest and water body, however, they will try to avoid Avoid Valley side development, minimize environmental impact by choosing route where lesser green cover is affected, Bypass locations with large local community built up such as markets, school areas and sensitive locations, and Avoid corrections at critical locations impacting overall environmental equilibrium. There will be 150 Junctions & Intersections across the alignment, 8 Major Junctions along the stretch, 36 bridges, HT Line and Electric Lines run parallel to alignment for entire stretch, and proper drainage.

While speaking during the meeting, Shri. Renikton, MLA Mawkyrwat Constituency, expressed his happiness to see that his dream project that he has laboured is becoming a reality.  He said that the most important thing to make the project a reality is the cooperation and collective effort of the District administration, Syiem of different kingdoms, village leaders, voluntary organisation/Pressure groups, general public along with NHIDCL and ka Global Infra Solutions. He urged people to take a vow and promise not to disturb the project, to give the land generously and to work together for accomplishment of the road construction. He lauded the Deputy Commissioner, NHIDCL  and Global Infra Solutions for organising an Employment Oriented Training & Skill Development Programme for Local Unemployed Youth/School dropouts of the district saying that this will ‘give an opportunity to local people to be involved in this construction project and empower them in the future’. He also requested Global Infra Solution to make sure that their DPR should be a practical for better implementation and avoid unnecessary turning and curve whenever is possible as it will create inconvenience to the public.

Shri Pius, MLA Ranikor Constituency, lauded the initiative taken by the District administration for the development and welfare of the people in the district. He said that road is the backbone for development, economic progress, better lifestyle and bring progress in every sphere of life. He urged the Syiem of different kingdoms, village leaders, voluntary organisation/Pressure groups, general public to work together with the company in the road construction project because it will be beneficial not only for the present generation but for the future of our society and state.
