Sensitisation Programme on Meghalaya Right to Public Services Act, 2020 held at Mawkyrwat

Mawkyrwat, November 17, 2021:  Shri. M.S. Rao, (Retd) IAS, Chief Commissioner of State Public Services Commission who was accompanied by shri. K.L. Tariang (Retd) I.A.S.  today visited Mawkyrwat and chaired  the  sensitization programme on Meghalaya right to Public Services  Act, 2020 in a meeting which was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Deputy Commissioner’s  office, Mawkyrwat.

While deliberating his speech on the Meghalaya Right to Public Services Act 2020, Mr Rao said that the essence of this Act, Rules and schedules is to provide for the delivery of notified services to the citizens within the stipulated time limit including liabilities of the government servants in case of default for matters connected therewith and to make sure that citizens are put at ease and conveniences. While admitting the fact that there are constraints in some parts of the state due to internet connectivity he informed that  in the next 2 years there will be rapid improvement in the entire state and citizens will not have to visit offices for availing services as this will be available online. He said that irrespective of connectivity the Act notifies that services should be delivered in due time and the Act is very much similar to the Right To Information Act, 2005 wherein government servant has to provide delivery of notified services within a stipulated time frame period and a penalty for those who could not provide such services within a specific period. The State Public Services Commission will be the overall monitoring and supervising system and will impose penalty for every defaulters. He dwelt at length on the provisions of this Act thereby informing about the services notified across 25 departments .He said that the structure has not been fully put in place but eventually this will be the most important act that has to be followed across the country. The core objective of the government is to serve the people therefore this Act has been brought in and for those who do not comply will have to be penalized.

In the programme which was chaired by shri. S.C. Laloo, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, smti. C. Kharkongor, IAS, Deputy Commissioner welcomed the gathering while shri. W. Biam, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner delivered the vote of thanks.
