Mawkyrwat, January 25, 2021: The 11thNational Voters Day was celebrated
in a befitting manner in South West Khasi Hills District (SWKHD), Mawkyrwat
which was held today at the Multi-purpose Hall, Office of the DC, SWKHD,
Mawkyrwat on the theme “Making our voters empowered,
vigilant, safe and informed”.

Kharkongor, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer wished
everyone a very Happy National Voter’s Day thereby adding that the day which
was started on January 26, 2011 which marked the Commission’s Foundation Day aimed
at encouraging more young voters and people’s participation for a better democratic
electoral and political process. She further said that the power to select our
policy makers depends on us. She therefore urged people to vote judiciously and
to choose a candidate of integrity, moral standard, a person who would look
into the welfare of the people and bring development to thr society. Ruing over
our leaders would make no good until and unless we have an EPIC card and select
judiciously the right leader, she added. She opined that our Franchise is the
tool that will give you the power to select our policy makers in the country and
the true test of a good democracy is a smooth election and transition of power
where the electors are informed and have a democratic maturity. She also said that an EPIC for most people is
an Identity Card but they often forget that it is an instrument that give them
the Adult Franchise Right to vote their leaders which will form the government.
She called upon those who have attained the age of 18 and above who have not
yet enrol to get themselves enrolled and make use of the Right to franchise
The other highlights of the day were
the Distribution of badges to newly enrolled electors of 31& 32-Jakrem
B&C, and 44&45-Mawkyrwat A&B by the BLOs of Jakrem A& B and
Mawkyrwat A& B, Smti. Gracy Ruselin Turnia,
A.T, Booth Level Officer 6-Ngunraw-B, 35-Ranikor (ST) Assembly Constituency and
Shri. Newton Roy Lyngkhoi, A.T, Booth Level Officer, 44-Mawkywrwat-A,
36-Mawkyrwat (ST) Assembly Constituency were awarded as the best performing
BLOs of 35-Ranikor (ST) and 36-Mawkyrwat (ST) Assembly Constituencies, in the
Slogan Writing Competition Shri. Biarlestar Nongsiej of Modern Higher Secondary
School, Rangmaw bagged the first prize, Shri. Rutherford Lyngdoh of Modern
Higher Secondary School, Rangmaw got second and Shri. Banshailang Lyngkhoi od
Maharam Govt. Higher Secondary School received the third prize, in the
Extempore Speech Competition Shri. Banteibor Sohshang of Maharam Govt. Higher
Secondary School was awarded the first prize, Aibawatklet Nandah Syiem of
Modern Academy Higher Sec. School, Rangmaw the second prize and Shri.
BanshailangLyngkhoi of Maharam Govt. Higher Secondary School was awarded the
third prize. During the celebration chaired by Shri. H.K Thabah, MCS, EAC (EL)
there was also a reading of Voter's pledge led by Shri. M. Syiem, MPS,
Superintendent of Police, SWKHD, Mawkyrwat, Launching of e-EPIC by Mr. I. Diengdoh
Assistant System Engineers, Distribution of tokens to participants and judges, Special
Song by Dawn Voice Music, Nonglang, Welcome Song sung by Shri. Samborlin Syiemlih,
Campus Ambassador and the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Shri.W. Biam, MCS,
ADC (EL), Mawkyrwat.

Ranikor, January 25, 2021:- The 11th
National Voters’ Day 2021 was also celebrated today in Ranikor Civil Sub Division
in the office Hall of the Sub Divisional Officer ( C) Ranikor in the presence
of the Electoral Registration Officer
and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, Booth Level Officers and newly
enrolled voters of 35- Ranikor Assembly Constituency .
Shri H. S. Diengdoh, Sub Divisional
Officer (C) Ranikor lead the gathering by reading the Voter’s Pledge .and while
speaking on the occasion said that the day was celebrated with a
view to enlighten and inspire young voters in exercising their rights and their
participation in a democratic election. He however reminds them of the right to
franchise and the dignity of a free, fair and ethical voting thereby encouraging them to vote fiercelessly
without being influenced by other powers
or inducement with a hope that a majority of people involved in voting
will create a positive impact if they exercise their right judiciously and make
their right decision.
