Shillong, July 26, 2021: As India celebrates the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas to mark India’s victory against Pakistan in Kargil war 1999, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri. Conrad Kongal Sangma paid tribute to North East's brave sons from Meghalaya Capt. Keishing Clifford Nongrum & Manipur Maj. David Manlun who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation during the war. Capt. Clifford Nongrum was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second highest gallantry award, for exemplary valor. To honour the brave sons of Meghalaya an auditorium was named after him as ‘Nongrum Auditorium’ at Shillong.
The War started on May 3,
1999 when local shepherds reported about the Pakistani intrusion in the Kargil
District. The Indian Army named the operation as 'Operation Vijay’ and the war
concluded on July 26, 1999 with Indian Army regaining control over all the
posts along the Line of Control (LoC) occupied by Pakistani forces and
sponsored militant.
