CM inspected several schemes and assess COVID-19 preparedness at SWKHD

Mawkyrwat, July 28, 2021: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri. Conrad Kongal Sangma who was accompanied by Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, PHE Minister and Local MLA, Shri. Sampath Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, Social Welfare, C&RD Development Department and CEO MBDA, Smt. C. Kharkongor, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Shri. Bashanborlang J. Laloo, SP SWKHD and other officials today visited Mawkyrwat and inspected the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) works and interacted with the beneficiaries at Mawsde Village, a meeting was held at Multi-Purpose Hall DC, Office where the Chief Minister had interaction and handed over the cheques to Producer Group members and beneficiaries, he inspected the MGNREGA & PMAY Schemes at Sakwang and Jashiar Village, assessed the COVID-19 situation in the District and had a meeting with Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, SHG Members, Anganwadi and ASHA workers and Field Functionaries on Leadership Role in fighting COVID-19 held at Nativity School, Mawkyrwat. Lastly, he inspected the progress of the100 bedded hospital and the ongoing work of the oxygen plant at CHC Mawkyrwat.




              While interacting with the people at Mawsde village the people informed that the JJM has benefited them a lot as it has saved their time, energy, money and can concentrate on their work better. It was informed that 25 households which is 100% of the hamlet is now getting water at their doorstep because of JJM.

            In a meeting which was held at the Multi-purpose Hall, Deputy Commissioner's office, Producer Groups and beneficiaries aired and shared their grievances and difficulties. The Chief Minister listen to them patiently and later assured them that the government through PRIME scheme will help them to overcome their problems through better pricing, market accessibility, higher production, value addition, better packaging and storage. He added that PRIME will also include handicrafts, weavers, handlooms etc. He informed that a tune of approximately Rs 200/- crores have been earmarked for individuals in the next two years across the state with a hope to provide assistance to around 4 lakhs members. He handed over cheques to 15 producer groups at Rs 5000/- per member and urged them to utilize the money well to increased their production and later on share their successful stories with others.

In a meeting held at St. Vianney’s Hall, Nativity School, Mawkyrwat the Chief Minister of Meghalya, Shri Conrad Kongal Sangma had interaction session with Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, SHG Members, Anganwadi and ASHA workers and Field Functionaries on Leadership Role in fighting COVID-19. While speaking about the role and function of the Block War Room in the District, Shri. Ferdinand Basan, BDO Mawkyrwat C&RD Block informed that the district has achieved only 37% of the residents regarding COVID-19 vaccination even though the vaccination teams have gone to each and every village for vaccination. The Chief Minister appreciated the suggestions and clarified the doubts raised by the members. He also urged the citizens of SWKH district to get vaccinated and strictly adhered to the protocols in order to overcome the pandemic and avoid Lockdown. He added that the government had never forced people to get vaccinated but have urged people to do so in order to protect others.

While addressing the plight of the ASHA workers the Shri Conrad Kongal Sangma said that the government really appreciate and recognize their self-sacrifice and hardwork. Therefore, the government has proposed a fixed amount of Rs. 2000/- per month and during the COVID-19 pandemic an additional amount of Rs. 1000/- per month besides other allowances will be given to the ASHA workers.

Shri. Sampath Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, Social Welfare, C&RD Department and CEO MBDA interacted with the Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, SHG Members, Anganwadi, ASHA and frontline workers in fighting against COVID-19 pandemic. He spoke about the nature of COVID-19 and how this novel virus keeps mutating from time to time and informed that in Meghalaya it is the Delta variant that affected people.

During the interactive session Fr. Venky Friding, Parish Priest of Nativity Parish Mawkyrwat raised several issues. In a lucid way Shri. Sampath Kumar, IAS along with a doctor from DHS clarified the questioned raised and doubts expressed by the field warriors.

Shri. Conrad Kongal Sangma along with Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Shri. Sampath Kumar, Smti. Caramai Kharkongor, Shri. Bashanborlang J. Laloo and other officials inspected the MGNREGA & PMAY Schemes at Sakwang and Jashiar Village. The Chief Minister met the family of (L) Smti. Banti Wartde of Sakwang village who died of COVID-19 leaving behind 9 children and handed a cheque of ₹50,000/- as ex gratia through the CM's Special Grant.

The Chief Minister inaugurated a footbridge over Rilang river at Jashiar village, South West Khasi Hills District which was collectively built by Jashiar, Marshillong and Nangbah Marshillong Village Employment Councils under the MGNREGA scheme 2020-21 at a project cost of Rs. 35,46,156/-. The Chief Minister lauded the collaborative efforts of the officials and the three VECs who were able to construct such beautiful footbridge within three months and reduced significantly the travel time from 8Km to 3Km in order reach Mawkyrwat Market. As a token of appreciation, he assured them that the Tree Plantation project at Marshillong Village and the Rock Garden at Jashiar Village will be taken up soon by the government.  The CM also visited the house of Larisha Lyngdoh and Ardalis Wanniang the beneficiaries of PMAY scheme 2019-20 at Jashiar village.

            Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, PHE Minister and Local MLA expressed his immense joy on the Chief Minister’s visit to the District who listened  to the grievances and difficulties that people faced at the grassroots level.He lauded the combined efforts the officers of the district for their contribution towards the development of the district and in their fight against this pandemic
