Overloaded vehicles will not be allowed to ply trough the Bridge No: 5/5 over the River Umngi at Umpung Village

Mawkyrwat, October 28, 2021: The District Magistrate of South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat Smti. C. Kharkongor, IAS issued an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting any overloaded vehicles carrying load beyond the permissible load limit, not exceeding 9.0 tones, to ply trough the Bridge No: 5/5 over the River Umngi at Umpung Village connecting Mawphlang-Balat-Ranikor-Maheshkola particularly from Ranikor to umpung.

The decision was taken after information was received that the Bridge No;5/5 over River Umngi at Umpung village which was constructed way back in the year 1960 is in a deteriorating condition which has caused deplorable damage on portion of the bridge girder and become weak and old due to plying of overloaded heavy trucks.

The order was made to ensure safety of public lives and properties and to prevent any eventuality caused by the deplorable bridge condition and to restrict such haphazard movement and plying of heavy overloaded trucks and buses from and to the area. Also, to regulate unlawful activity that may disrupt the free movement of vehicular traffic in the district that may cause inconvenience to the member of the general public. In view of the urgency of the matter the order shall take immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
