Pan India Awareness & Outreach Programme Organised at Mawkyrwat

Mawkyrwat November 05, 2021: The Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme which is part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav” was celebrated today in the premises of the District and Session Court, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat. The Legal Awareness programme on the theme “Child friendly Legal Services to children and their protection” was organized by the office of the District Legal Services Authority, Mawkyrwat wherein Hon’ble Mr Justice, W. Lyngdoh, Judge High Court of Meghalaya and administrative Judge South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat was the Chief Guest.




Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Justice W. Diengdoh said that children are entitled to special care and assistance and the need to extend particular care to the child has been stated in the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child. He said that a child needs to grow up in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding for full and harmonious development of his personality. While recalling the provisions of the Declaration on socio and legal principles relating to the protection and welfare of children, he said that there are children who are living in exceptionally difficult conditions and such children needs special assistance and consideration. He laid great stresses on the importance of education while impressing that under the “Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009”, Children between ages 6-14 are entitled to receive free and compulsory education. He

also dwelt at length on the various provisions of laws which ensure that a child is protected against all forms of discrimination of any kind. 

Dr. F. R. Lartang, District Medical & Health Officer, Mawkyrwat informed about the schemes which are related to women and children thereby urging one and all to avail the benefits offered by the department for the overall growth and development of women and children. 

Shri S. R. Kharkongor, Legal cum Probation Officer, Mawkyrwat, Smti A. Sawkmie, Sub Inspector, Juvenile Protection Unit, South West Khasi Hills District, Shri. Toteinam Lyngdoh, District Planning Co-ordinator under District Mission Coordinator, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Smti. B. Lyngkhoi, representative from the Sub Divisional School Education officer, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat also spoke on the occasion.          

            Prizes and Certificates were also distributed to the most active Para Legal Volunteers in the District, also it was given to the cyclist participants Shri. Kaitdalin Syiemiong and Miss Lucky Lily Bansara Lyngdoh, and prizes were given to the winners of the musical chair conducted for the children at Hope Orphanage Trust, Mawlangwir that include Miss Mercifull Thyrniang, Miss Salinsha Wartde, Miss Ridashisha Turnia and the youngest participant award was given to Miss Rijullin Sangriang.

The programme was chaired by Smt. Justice I. Lyngkhoi, Judicial Magistrate First Class, District and Sessions Court, Smti. B Mawrie, District & Session Judge, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat delivered the welcome address and Smt. E. shabong Secretary, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mawkyrwat offered the vote of thanks.
